How to Use Your Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump // Momma Alia

Explanation

Hi this is Jen I’m a contributor for MommysPicks.com, today I’m talking to you about the madela common style advanced double electric breast pump so this is my pump that I bought over five years ago now when my son was born he was a preemie and wasn’t able to nurse right away because he was so tiny so I knew I needed to be able to pump and while they do provide pumps at the hospital I know I need to pump when I came home at night as well so this is it

So let’s take a look at this actual pump so this pump this one is the backpack version of the pump in style advanced you can get a couple of different styles there’s one that is like a shoulder bag or you can just get the pump on its own in this case it’s a nice backpack it makes for easy transport if you are taking it back and forth to different places and it’s got some really great pockets so there’s a nice pocket at the back I liked this one to keep my sterilization bags in they fold up nicely at the back and there are pockets on either side so that if you are tucking a bottle or anything like that and they’ve been in great they’re so looking at the actual pump it’s in this bottom compartment here that zippers open which is perfect for storing all the power cords and tubes and stuff like that so looking inside I have the power adapter that just plugs into the hole at the bottom here so when you do have access to a plug you would just use that power adapter this version also comes with the battery adapter so it’s this little portable battery pack and you would just put the batteries in and again plug it into the same place that the regular power adapter plugs into this is perfect for you know if you’re traveling or at a place that you don’t necessarily have access to a power outlet I used it when I was traveling internationally over to Europe it was perfect to have that option as well then also inside are the tubing for the pump and then the actual pump itself plugs in there are two spots for tubes to plug into so one for each flange and if you are doing only if you do want to pump only on a single side you do have that option there’s a little piece here in the middle that just pulls forward and it’s actually attached to the pump you can just move it over and cover the hole for the second side so that you only just have one tube and hook up so that you can pump or if you do want to do two again you would just move it back and then plug in your second tube for suction there’s a dial up here at the top that allows you to you turn to select how much suction you want while you’re pumping and the medulla is pump is set up so that for the first two minutes of pumping it’s doing like shorter like faster sections and then after two minutes it goes to longer slower suction and so there’s a button here that lets you convert between those two modes I have always sort of used on the default setting and found that that works really well for me but if you know if you do get really fast letdowns and you don’t need as much of the shorter faster sections you could just press this button to get into the longer slower rhythmic ones or if you vice-versa if you if your body responds really well to the shorter sections you could just push the button again to go back to that that’s setting now there are a couple of pockets at the top – there’s one smaller pocket up at the top which I found handy for either breast milk bag or sometimes some lanolin cream and then this big pocket up at the top is where I would hold the actual flanges and the this one came with a great little cooler pack that holds four of these bottles and a nice pack that fits around them perfectly it’s actually contoured to fit around the four bottles we love that little cooler pack I you know if I could get more of those just by themselves I would my husband likes it so much that he uses it to take in his lunch because you can fit pop cans around it perfectly now that we’re not using it to transport you know milk back and forth to the hospital or to daycare so this is what the actual flanges look like so I’m just going to go through the different parts of them so you have the bottle at the bottom that’s where you would collect the actual milk and then the flange itself is made up of two parts or the top and then this valve with a membrane on it so there’s a little piece of plastic here that just attaches you just press it in and it sort of clicked clicks in and that’s the part where the milk is actually gonna drop through this valve at the bottom of the flange I like that the flange comes apart into two pieces for a couple of reasons one being that it’s just a little bit easier to clean like all the way at the back here you can get into it a little bit easier when it comes apart and two if you are using a hands-free bra for pumping you’re able to put the slant on your body put and then put like put this through the bra and then attach this piece at the back I’m really easily with her wearing one of those bras the one thing just to take note of is with this little membrane piece that is attached to the valve if you do loose or find that your pumping is not good or losing suction the first thing to check is here you are gonna find that over time with use you will get little like and washing rips and tears in these membranes you it’s easy to get replacements for them they’re easy to replace you just pop it off and pop a new one on but that’s the first place to look if you’re if you’re having some issues pumping is to make sure that those are still in good shape and on attach properly because the other thing I’ve also had is that it’s not quite pushed in all the way it’s just sort of sitting in there and not creating a seal and then you’ll lose suction on that so it just needs to be pushed in flat against so it just goes onto the bottom you’re gonna screw the bottle on to the bottom and then plug in your tubing and you’re ready to go one thing to note is with the Medela system it does not happen very often in all my times pumping I think I’ve only had it happened to me twice but it is possible for the milk to get into the tubing so what you just want to be careful of is when you do start pumping just have a look to make sure the milk is actually collecting in the bottom the two times I’ve had it happened to me is just the little membrane itself has just after washing just dried on to the yellow valve and so what I got into the habit of doing this when I was attaching the bottles I just run my finger just to make sure that it was loose so that it was easy for the milk to escape down to the bottom instead of backing up into the base of the flange and getting into your tubing that’s only ever happened when I wasn’t really paying attention to what I was doing I just hooked up and you know normally I’m watching something on my iPad or something like that and all of a sudden I’m like why isn’t there any milk in the bottles and that’s why it’s just because those little membranes are just sticking to the valve so overall I’ve been really happy with my medulla pump and style pump I highly recommend it to other moms out there who are looking for a breast pump that is you know easy to use and easy to transport with you while you’re on the go if you have any questions about the medulla pump it’s out feel free to leave them in the comments below

Introduction to your Medela Swing Breastpump - by Medela Australia

Explanation

Hello everyone today we are going to make review of this medela swing electric breast pump I have used this breast pump with my first child and now I’m using it with my second child and I think I have quite a lot of experience and opinion about it that I can share with you and I think it would be useful for every first-time mom or just a mom that hasn’t been expressing before to learn more about it and know how to use it and if it’s worth buying this breast pump this one is the electric version you can plug it in the power with a cable that goes just on this side here the goes the cable and you can plug it in the electric electricity but also you can use batteries you need four AAA batteries you have to open this compartment there on the back and you can put two batteries here and two batteries here for in total to use it when out and about so it’s quite convenient you can use it if you’re going somewhere if you’re traveling you can still express milk and have this with you all the time you can also put the actual body of the pump somewhere on a belt or somewhere to hang in and you can walk with it and bring it on somewhere with batteries and you can keep it with you all the time so this is the main body of the pump and this is that you thing you use for pumping on your breasts and the bottle that goes with it so these two things are the touch of all obviously the bottles you can use them on their own you can put a cap on it or you can put the special medela teat so you can feed your baby from that bottle if you want to also this part of the breast pump is made of three different little parts so that’s one part that comes in different sizes so depending on the size of your breasts you can get in different sizes this one is the 24 millimeters that I’m using and it’s suitable for me in my body shape this part also comes in two different parts as you can see so actually it comes off and it’s three parts in total this one is very important because the milk goes through it and goes directly into the bottle so you have to be careful when using it you can change those little and filters and you can bind additional ones it’s really good but they’ll have lots of accessories you can buy and you can change different parts from your breast pump and make it work for you so I have to say that the medela swing pump is a great invention definitely something you can consider if you want to still breastfeed but you don’t want do you want convenience of bottle feeding as well so it doesn’t have to be you did you feed your baby it could be someone else feeling it or you can leave your husband or someone just a relative or friend feeding your baby when you express milk with that pop I have to say the pump is really easy to use you have only four main buttons on them the main body of the pump you have this button that is the on/off button you have this one that actually starts the first phase of the working kind of mode of the mental swing pump it has two phases as I said the first phase prepares your body like your breasts for expressing and then the second is actually expressing so if you switch on the pump it will start the first phase then for a few seconds up to a minute or two minutes to prepare your breasts for expressing and then automatically to start expressing if you want the expressing to start straightaway you can press this button as you can see with little two drops here and then from the side buttons you can control the speed and the intensity of the expressing so if you want it to be faster you can press the plus button and you can kind of control this and see what’s comfortable expressing shouldn’t be painful expressing should be pain-free just as normal breastfeeding and depending on your circumstances you can get up to eight ounces a full bottle for 30 minutes from both breasts but this really depends on your body how much milk you have so it really it’s like a personal thing and I’ll definitely say that you have I would recommend you try it and see how it works for you this pump is usually very expensive if you buy it from the high street shops you can buy for up to 130 pounds but I recommend looking at websites such as Amazon or Ebay or secondhand options so you can purchase it on a cheaper price and definitely recommend using it because it’s fast it’s easy to use it’s convenient yes you have to sterilize all your equipment after using but that’s what comes with bottle feeding and it’s something you have to kind of have in mind when you think about expressing milk so yeah this is my quick review of the medela swing breath pump if you want to know more about it kind of tips and tricks on using it or if you have any comments please leave them in a comment section below thanks a lot

How to Assemble Medela Hand Pump

I want to talk about this awesome little hand pump it’s called the medulla harmony manual breast pump and it is just fabulous I love using it and today I’m nine weeks away from having my second baby so I’ve been getting all my breastfeeding gear out and I thought you know what I’ll go ahead and write an article because I really wanted to show you guys this breast pump so I’m going to show you in this article how to use it how to assemble it

So I love some of the products that you can use with it and if you have any questions about those products just comment below.

What I liked about it what I didn’t like about it and how I travelled with it in the things that I used to travel with so without further ado let’s go ahead and get started so here’s the medulla harmony pump this is a hand manual pump that a small lightweight and doesn’t require any batteries or charging this is the perfect breast pump to have on hand when traveling or sitting next to your nightstand for easy access before use you want to make sure that your hands are clean I believe they recommend boiling your pump parts for the first time I usually hand wash mine or toss it in the dishwasher you can also use me Medela steam bag if you’re at work or out and about just add your parts in the recommended amount of water and microwave you can use these bags up to 20 times and just mark with a sharpie after each use just make sure you follow your manuals instructions for this exact pump since I purchased mine used I boiled mine a couple of times before I started using it when you’re ready to pump I first recommend some sort of nipple balm or cream to help lubricate the area this will help make pumping easier on your skin they also have medela cream but I prefer the bamboo these brand because it comes on so smoothly it’s organic and it’s great for short nipples after applying your cream put the breast shells over your breast and start to pump on the top smaller side first the handle of this pump has a two-phase system it has a letdown part on the top which mimics a baby’s fast sucking the to help get your milk to let down once your milk starts to flow you can then switch to the other side which mimics a more rhythmic flow that a baby gets into once your milk wets down it’s also a good idea to wear breast pad on your other breast to keep leaks from happening I also like to keep a couple of cloth wipes on hand to wipe up any drips and to wipe off my breast shield after each use you can then switch to your other breast and continue pumping or add a new bottle either top the bottle with a cap for storage or a nipple to feed if you’re freezing your milk don’t fill the bottle all the way up because the milk will expand plus you don’t want milk spilling everywhere when you’re switching out bottles the harmony I believe comes with two five ounce medela bottles expand and two caps I purchased this one you sir don’t have the original packaging you can use any Medela pump with virtually any brand of baby bottle but some will require an adapter piece you can use the larger 8 ounce size Medela bottles but unfortunately they don’t fit to stand you can also pump into these Medela breast milk storage tubes which convert into bottles with an add on of a nipple they also have medela plastic storage bags you just use a pump bag adapter screw it on and attach the bag holes on both hooks and then start pumping to assemble your manual breast pump the first thing you want to do is take your shield container and connect the yellow valve piece now this is the tricky part you need to make sure that the valve is facing a certain direction or will not work properly do not have it flat like this or this as long as the valve is facing to the left or the right side in the direction of your breast shield you’re good now add the little white membrane onto the yellow valve attach your bottle bag or storage tube then you’ll need to attach your breast shield I prefer to use the 27 millimeter which is a little larger than your standard 24 millimeter you can purchase these shields and additional sizes to fit your needs to assemble the two-phase expression handles you need to insert the plastic piece on top of the rubber piece facing down flip the piece around and insert it into the handle make sure the rubber part is completely filled around the handle or it will pop off when you try to pump now stick your completed handle onto your shield container and voila you have quickly assembled your Medela Harmony pump
